As the title suggests, the theme of the next edition will be Laughter - Seven On Laughter - and we are asking people who write to consider submitting a story.

There is no payment, no prize and no guarantee that anyone will actually read it. However, given this is pretty much the lot of the short story writer, you may still be interested in submitting a story.

We hope so as we would love to read your work. The word count is 2,500. We will be selecting seven stories so there is no promise that your story will be included but everyone who enters will get a copy of the paper.

If you can submit an illustration, that would be great – and please make sure you have permission to use it.

Otherwise, we will get our lovely designer to illustrate your work. (You may want to wait to see if your story is selected before thinking about an illustration though.

Welcome to Seven On and our first collection, Seven on Austerity.

When we first talked about putting together a collection of short stories, we were both talking about a book.  However, when we thought about the things we enjoy – Granta, the Five by Fifteen talks, and the Guardian Your Pictures section – we wanted to do something a little different.

In addition, we wanted to produce something quickly, to respond to the theme.  The newspaper format enabled us to do this.
